Santa Fe nonprofit plans state’s first free comprehensive primary care clinic for the uninsured.
(KRQE) –”A historic working-class neighborhood in Santa Fe is welcoming a new tenant, a nonprofit working towards opening a free clinic that would be the first of its kind in New Mexico.
Comunidad de Colores is hoping to provide free, comprehensive primary healthcare for those who are uninsured. The organization recently hit a major milestone, signing the lease for its new space in Santa Fe’s Hopewell-Mann neighborhood. A former tattoo parlor, it needs renovations before their free health clinic for the uninsured can open its doors.”

Talking about the intention and mission behind Comunidad de Colores, and how to make it free for our uninsured, largely immigrant, population. It all comes from the community.
Founded by a team of health care providers and administrators and funded entirely through grants and grassroots fundraising efforts, Comunidad de Colores will provide primary care services — “which we think encompasses a wide range of things,” Nguyen said.

Comunidad de Colores, a free medical clinic that plans to serve patients in the low-income Hopewell Mann neighborhood of Santa Fe, has found a new home.
It will sit between Chainbreaker’s headquarters and the food pantry Bienvenidos Outreach in Hopewell Mann, one of the lowest-income areas of the city, with a high demand for no-cost medical care.
“We’re between a tenants’ rights and transportation rights organization and a food access organization, so it doesn’t really get any better than that. ... The solidarity with our community partners is important,” said Christine Winfield, one of Comunidad de Colores’ co-founders.
Facing staffing shortages, nonprofit uncertainty and draconian new policies from Washington DC, New Mexico could use a healthcare hero or two. Turns out, Santa Fe has four who are collecting more under the name Comunidad de Colores. The new nonprofit hopes to provide full healthcare services free of charge to anyone, no health insurance needed.
